Step by Step, It Starts With “Love of Humanity”

The word “philanthropy” comes from Greek roots meaning love of humanity. It’s a big word with a simple heart: helping others, strengthening community, and making a difference in ways that matter to you.
For some, philanthropy means supporting a favorite nonprofit year after year. For others, it means volunteering, responding to urgent needs, or creating long-term change. However it shows up, philanthropy is personal.
At the Siouxland Community Foundation, our role is to help you discover, shape, and act on your charitable instincts. Often, that begins with a simple conversation.
We’ll Review Your Favorite Charities
Together, we’ll look at the organizations you already support and explore why they matter to you. This helps us build on what you’re already doing and identify ways to deepen your impact.
We’ll Chat About Your Story
Your life experiences often point to your charitable passions. We’ll talk about the challenges, opportunities, and moments that shaped you, helping clarify where you feel most motivated to give.
We’ll Talk About What’s Going On in Siouxland
Local issues often reveal what matters most. Whether it’s something in the news, a local initiative, or a cause a friend supports, our team can provide context and connect you with organizations addressing those needs.
We’ll Connect With Your Advisors About Structure
As your charitable goals become clearer, we can work with your estate planning and tax advisors to explore the right giving structure. That might include:
– A donor-advised fund
– An unrestricted fund
– A legacy gift
– An IRA beneficiary designation
– Another charitable giving tool aligned with your financial plan
You don’t need to have all the answers right away. Philanthropy is a journey, and it’s okay to start small, ask questions, and adjust as you go. Together, we can turn your love of humanity into meaningful, lasting impact right here in Siouxland.
