Ruth Van Voorhis Scholarship

BACKGROUND: This scholarship fund was established in 2021 by family and friends to honor Ruth and her commitment to education.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the scholarship program is to assist graduating North, East or West High School seniors in their pursuit of a post-secondary education at an accredited two or four-year college/university.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Applicants must be graduating seniors from East High School in Sioux City, Iowa; North High School in Sioux City, Iowa; or West High School in Sioux City, Iowa and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Applicants must have participated in extracurricular school and/or community activities and be majoring in elementary education.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Selection of recipients is based on such factors as school and/or community service activities, and essay evaluation. Applicant must have a 3.0 GPA.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: Range $2,500-$5,000

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Application must be received by the February 1 deadline and must include the following:

• Completed online application
• Essay
• Official high school transcript
