Martin, Bernice and Allan Falk Scholarship

BACKGROUND: The Martin, Bernice and Allan Falk Scholarship fund was established in 2018 by Allan to honor his parents Martin and Bernice. The scholarship is administered by the Siouxland Community Foundation. Allan created this scholarship to “pay forward” the benefits his parents, grandparents and great-grandparent received as United States citizens. Their fondest hope was the scholarship recipients enjoy their own success in life and advance scientific knowledge for the benefit of humanity.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the scholarship program is to assist a current undergraduate junior/senior or graduate student in a Ph.D. program pursue a career in the science field.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Applicant must be a current junior or senior undergraduate college/university student OR a graduate student in Ph.D. program majoring in mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, botany or environmental science.  Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0) in college and be a current legal resident of Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska or South Dakota. Preference will be given to Jewish students.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Selection of recipients is based on such factors as scholastic performance, school and/or community service activities, and essay evaluation.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $5,000, not renewable.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Application must be received by the November 1 deadline and must include the following:

• Completed online application
• Essay
• Official college transcript
