BACKGROUND: The Helmut J. Koch Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Koch by his family in 2025.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the scholarship program is to assist seniors graduating from South Sioux City High School in their pursuit of a post-secondary education in the fields of science at an accredited four-year college/university.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Applicants must be graduating seniors from South Sioux City High School in South Sioux City, NE; have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and be attending a four-year college/university, majoring in a science related field. Preference given to students attending Wayne State College in Wayne, NE or University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD and to those majoring in Chemistry, Physics or Science Education.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Selection of recipients is based on such factors as scholastic performance while in high school, school and/or community service activities, work, and essay evaluation.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $2,000, not renewable.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Application must be received by the February 1 deadline and must include the following:
• Completed online application
• Essay
• Official high school transcript
