BACKGROUND: The Eugene Windeshausen Annual Scholarship was established in 2015 by Patricia Windeshausen in memory of her husband Eugene. “Mr. W”, as Eugene was lovingly referred to, spent 35 years in the Sioux City Community School District as a teacher and principal retiring in 2001.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the scholarship program is to provide assistance to a deserving graduating senior from West High School located in Sioux City, Iowa in their pursuit of a post-secondary education. All applicants should be needs-based and show great personal potential.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Applicants must be graduating seniors from West High School in Sioux City, Iowa and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Selection of recipients is based on financial need, with consideration for students’ personal accomplishments and characteristics. Other factors considered include an applicant’s extracurricular activities and community service record. Special consideration is given to students pursing a post-secondary education at a technical or trade school. Academic achievement is not a weighted selection criteria for this scholarship award.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $2,500, not renewable.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Application must be received by the February 1 deadline and must include the following:
• Completed online application
• Essay
• First two pages of your parents’/guardians’ (or your) most current U.S. Income Tax Return (Form 1040)
• Official high school transcript
