O’Brien County Community Foundation Awards 2023 Grants
The O’Brien County Community Foundation (OBCCF), an affiliate of the Siouxland Community Foundation, awarded grants totaling over $120,000 to nonprofit organizations and units of local government in support of projects throughout O’Brien County. Grants were presented June 15 in Primghar.
“Since 2006 the O’Brien County Community Foundation has granted over $1.6 million dollars back into our community for projects and programs that benefit O’Brien County residents,” says Denise Steffen, OBCCF Advisory Chair. “This endowment program has made a tremendous impact on the quality of life for our people.”
The following grants were awarded by the O’Brien County Community Foundation:

City of Primghar – City Siren Update – $5,000
Cornerstone Senior Communities – Indoor Pool Repainting – $6,000
Foster Grandparent Program – Volunteer Service Support – $2,160
General N. B. Baker Library – Outdoor Lighting and Flagpole Restoration – $1,745
Hartley Fire Dept – Bunker Gear Replacement – $7,500
Hartley Parks & Rec – Movies in the Park – $4,000
Noah’s Ark Preschool – Gross Motor Equipment Project – $2,500
O’Brien County Conservation Board – Mill Creek Park Beach Building Renovation – $7,000
O’Brien County Livestock Show & Agricultural Assn. – Fairground Showring Renovation – $8,000
Paullina Volunteer Fire Department – Specialty Rescue Equipment – $7,500
Primghar Ambulance – Training Equipment Replacement – $3,500
Primghar Public Library – Light Up the Library – $3,500
Sanborn Public Library – Outdoor Beautification – $3,500
Senior Companion Program – Volunteer Direct Costs Support – $1,014
Sheldon Fire Company – Grain Bin Rescue System – $5,400
Sheldon IA Avenue of Flags – Signage, Flag and Pole Replacement/Repairs – $4,250

Sutherland Fire and Ambulance Department – Defibrillator/12 Lead ECG Heart Monitor System – $15,000
Wonderland Theater – Theater Auditorium Renovation – $13,000
The OBCCF was formally established in 2005 through affiliation with the Siouxland Community Foundation and is governed by a local advisory board composed of representatives from each of the communities in O’Brien County: Archer, Calumet, Hartley, Paullina, Primghar, Sanborn, Sheldon, and Sutherland; as well as one county-at-large member.
The mission of the O’Brien County Community Foundation is to enhance the quality of life in the communities served by encouraging permanent charitable giving to meet the needs of present and future generations. OBCCF welcomes gifts of any size to the endowment to help fund O’Brien County projects.
