Akron Community Foundation Awards Grants

The Akron Community Foundation (ACF), an affiliate of the Siouxland Community Foundation, recently awarded grants totaling $55,783 to several local nonprofit organizations.

Since the first grants were announced in 2006, over $500,000 has been awarded to support needs and services in the community. ACF has also provided scholarships to 36 Akron-Westfield High School seniors since 2017.

The following nonprofit organizations were awarded grants from ACF:

Akron Fire-Rescue – Bunker Gear Replacement – $20,000

Akron Children’s Center – Playground Resurfacing – $4,000

Siouxland Youth for Christ – Akron HS Youth Campus Life Program – $5,000

Akron Opera House – Facade Rehabilitation Project – $8,700

Akron Chamber – Farmers Market Activities – $2,000

Northwest Little League – Equipment – $2,426

Akron Historical Society – Museum Foundation/Window Restoration – $4,500

City of Akron – New Community Pool – $9,157

The mission of the Akron Community Foundation is to identify and fulfill community needs, impact future growth and development of Akron, promote volunteerism and enhance the quality of life in Akron. “The Akron Community Foundation endowment grants have impacted our Akron resident’s quality of life immensely,” says Mike Hohenstein, Akron advisory chair, “and I want thank all that have contributed to our endowment, and especially John and Mary Lucken.”

The ACF is an affiliate of the Siouxland Community Foundation which provides administrative and technical assistance to further the charitable efforts of all its affiliates, including the Akron Community Foundation.
